Cycle Hire on the Great Glen Route Day 1

Details: Collect your quality Cross Country, MTB or Trek Navigator Equipped from Nevis Cycles Inverlochy.

The day provides a very invigorating ride of 34 miles, 54.4kms, for which you need to allow six and a half to seven hours. The route takes you on an energetic journey with picture postcard views of mountains and lochs. Start with the magnificent panorama of Ben Nevis on the first leg. Continue through forest and by loch side to the tranquillity of the Caledonian Canal towpath near Fort Augustus. Additional loop rides connect with this route in the Invergarry area, for example the Greenfield circuit and the Loch Oich circular, so a stop-over in Invergarry allows more routes to be explored. If you plan to ride the full distance from Fort William to Inverness, you have the option to stay overnight in Invergarry, Fort Augustus, Invermoriston or Drumnadrochit and continue your adventure!
Each village has a range of interesting rides and it is perfectly possible to spend a whole week riding in the great glen and still not have time to explore all the wonderful routes that this spectacular area has to offer!

A mountain/hybrid bike is essential as there are some stiff climbs and steep descents over challenging terrain.

Cycle Hire on the Great Glen Route Day 2

Details: This section also presents you with ever changing views. Enjoy the clear contrasts between remote forest tracks and the pretty villages of Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit.

Day 2 is longer. The most strenuous section of the whole route is between Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit. Steep hills might mean some walking if you have a heavy load. However the stunning views are well worth the gruelling climbs.

Consider, if you are attempting the whole route as a novice cyclist, staying one night in Fort Augustus and perhaps a second night in Drumnadrochit. This village is famous as the location of Urquhart Castle and sightings of Nessie.
